The Experience
The day starts with a drive from Santiago toward the coast, stopping first in Casablanca Valley for a tour and tasting at a carefully selected vineyard. You'll taste wines in a region that's become central Chile's answer to the Maipo and Maule valleys further south, then continue toward the Pacific. On the way, you pass the Flower Clock of Viña del Mar, a landmark visible from the road that marks the approach to the coast.
Valparaiso itself is built on steep hills that drop to the harbor, and the only practical way up and down is by funicular. You'll ride El Peral Funicular to reach Cerro Concepción, where the streets narrow into alleys lined with street art, local restaurants and the everyday life of the neighborhood. From there, you descend via the Concepción Funicular back to Plaza Sotomayor, the main square facing the harbor with government buildings around it. You also explore the downtown harbor area and walk through the backstreets of the lively hills. Because it's a private tour, you're not locked into a group schedule—if a particular street or viewpoint holds your attention, you stay longer.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and the guide travels with you the whole way, which means you can ask about what you're seeing as you move through the city. Coffee or tea is included. The full day runs 8 to 9 hours from pickup in Santiago, so plan for an early start and a return in the late afternoon.

What is the Casablanca Valley wine region like, and what will I taste there?
Casablanca Valley is a coastal wine region near Valparaiso known for cool-climate whites and lighter reds. The tour includes a winery visit and tasting at a vineyard the operator has selected, though the specific wines and the number of tastings depend on which winery you visit that day.
How do the funiculars work, and do I have to ride them?
El Peral and Concepción are historic cable cars that climb the steep hills of Valparaiso—they're the main way to reach the neighborhoods where the street art and viewpoints are. Riding them is part of the tour, and they're short rides (a few minutes each) that are part of how the day moves through the city.
Can I skip parts of the itinerary or spend more time somewhere?
Yes. Because it's a private tour with a guide who travels with you, you can adjust the route and timing. If you want to spend more time in Cerro Concepción or at the harbor, or skip a stop, your guide can work with that—the day is flexible within the 8 to 9 hour window.
Is lunch included in the day?
Lunch is not included, though the tour passes through neighborhoods with local restaurants where you can eat if you want to stop. Coffee or tea is provided.
What's the physical demand of this tour?
The tour is suitable for all fitness levels. You'll walk through Valparaiso's streets and ride two funiculars, but there are no long hikes or strenuous climbs—the funiculars do the work of getting up the hills.
What language does the guide speak?
Your guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese, depending on which option you choose at checkout.
