The Experience

The first thing I noticed was the crunch under my boots — that dry, almost brittle sound you only get in the Atacama Desert. Our guide, Camila, handed out breakfast as we watched steam curl from the El Tatio Geysers. It was colder than I’d expected; my breath came out in little clouds. Someone tried to take a selfie and nearly dropped their phone into a bubbling pool.
