The experience
The boat leaves the fisherman's pier at Te Manché in Sal Rei at a time you choose. You have the 22ft vessel to yourself: no other passengers, no shared schedule. Captain Adilton, who grew up on Boa Vista and knows the ocean here, runs the boat. He handles the navigation and the barbecue while you focus on what you came to do. The boat carries fishing rods, snorkelling equipment, life jackets and a fire extinguisher. GPS, a fish finder and marine radio are built in.
The route runs south along the Estoril coast. You cast the rods and fish as the boat moves. What you catch becomes lunch. When the fishing slows or you've got enough, the boat turns toward Djeu, a small island with a reef nearby. The anchor drops and you go ashore or straight into the water with snorkelling gear. While you explore the island or work the reef, Captain Adilton fires up the barbecue and grills the fish you caught that morning. After you eat on the beach, there's time to swim, rest or walk before heading back to Sal Rei.
Drinks and sandwiches are included. The captain provides everything but your own transport to the pier. A taxi from Riu Touareg costs about €50 and is arranged separately. The activity runs five hours total. Guides speak English, Portuguese or Italian depending on your preference.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Italian and Portuguese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I snorkel if I don't want to fish?
Yes. One of the three booking options is bay cruise with snorkeling only, which skips the fishing rods and focuses on the reef near Djeu island and time on the beach.
What happens if the fish aren't biting?
Captain Adilton will move to different spots along the coast to find them. If the catch is light, the barbecue still fires up with what you've got, and the snorkelling at the reef is the main event of the afternoon.
Is the boat really private, or will there be other people?
The boat is entirely yours. When you book, you have the vessel and Captain Adilton to yourself. No other passengers join the trip.
What's the minimum age to go?
Participants must be at least 14 years old. Children under that age cannot join.
Do I need to know how to fish or snorkel?
No experience is required. Captain Adilton will show you how to cast and handle the rods, and snorkelling equipment is provided with instruction on how to use it.
