The captain knows every reef and current off Boa Vista because he has lived his whole life fishing them.

Bottom fishing in Boa Vista is a four-hour activity where you cast rods from a 22ft Windy boat departing the fisherman's pier at Sal Rei, sailing south along the Estoril coast. The boat carries GPS, fish finder and marine radio. Your guide is the captain himself, Adilton, who knows the ocean here. Pickup from your accommodation is included, along with fishing rods, drinks and sandwiches.

The experience

The boat leaves from the fisherman's pier at Te Manché in Sal Rei and heads south along the Estoril coast, where you cast out the rods and fish the bottom grounds. Adilton, the captain, has spent his whole life on Boa Vista and reads the water the way someone reads a familiar room. The 22ft Windy boat runs a 130hp engine with a 4hp Honda outboard, equipped with GPS, fish finder and marine radio so he can locate the productive grounds and navigate safely. Life jackets and a fire extinguisher are on board.

You'll spend the morning or afternoon casting, waiting for the bite, and working the rods while the boat holds position or drifts the grounds. Drinks and sandwiches come with the trip. The captain speaks English, Portuguese and Italian, so the instructions and the rhythm of the day stay clear. Private transportation picks you up from your hotel and brings you back when the four hours are done.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to fish with a small group or as a private party. The boat holds a handful of anglers, and you're on the water with Adilton and whoever else you bring. A four-hour trip suits a half-day schedule and works best if you're comfortable on a boat in open water.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Italian and Portuguese.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What kind of fish will I catch off Boa Vista?

Bottom fishing off Boa Vista targets species that hold on the reef and sandy grounds along the Estoril coast. The captain's fish finder locates them, and he knows which depths and grounds produce on the day you go.

Do I need fishing experience to book this trip?

No experience is required. The captain provides the rods and handles the navigation and location. You cast and work the line. Adilton will show you how to fish the bottom grounds.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

The boat carries safety equipment including life jackets and marine radio. Adilton makes the call on conditions. Rough seas or unsafe weather would affect the trip, and he knows the local conditions well enough to decide before you leave the pier.

Is the four-hour trip the same every day?

The route and timing stay consistent: departure from Sal Rei, south along the coast, four hours on the water. Where the fish are holding and which grounds produce can shift with season and conditions, but the captain adjusts the location to find them.
