The experience
You arrive at Kite Beach, the island's premier kitesurfing spot, where an instructor meets you and assesses your swimming ability and comfort level. Absolute beginners spend time on land first, learning how the kite responds to wind and how to control it before entering the water. Once the instructor confirms you're ready, and only then, you move into the Atlantic for the water session. The whole lesson takes two hours and covers the fundamentals of stance, board control and safety.
The setup keeps groups small: a lesson pairs two people maximum, so you get direct attention rather than competing for the instructor's focus. Private lessons put you one-on-one with the guide. Either way, all equipment is provided, and you'll have bottled water on hand throughout. The minimum weight is 35 kg and you need to be able to swim. There's no age limit as long as you meet those two requirements and want to be there.
Hotel pickup is included, and your guide speaks English, Portuguese, Italian or French depending on which option you book. The instructors are certified and trained to the highest safety standards, which is why the progression from land to water is non-negotiable. It's what keeps the learning curve manageable and the risk low.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, French, Italian and Portuguese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I try kite surfing if I've never done it before?
Yes. Absolute beginners are the norm here. You'll start with a mandatory land session to learn kite control, then move to water only once your instructor confirms you're ready. All participants are assessed on arrival.
What's the difference between a group lesson and a private one?
A group lesson pairs you with one other person for two hours of instruction. A private lesson is one-on-one with the instructor for the same duration. Both include the same equipment, transfer and water.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to kite surf?
You need to be able to swim and weigh at least 35 kg. There's no upper age limit. The instructor assesses your ability on arrival and will not move you to the water until they're confident you're ready.
What happens if I'm not ready for the water after the land session?
The instructor decides when to move to water based on your progress and comfort. If you need more time on land, that's what the lesson covers. The two-hour session includes both phases.
Is the equipment included in the lesson price?
Yes. Kite surf equipment, bottled water, professional instruction and hotel transfer are all included. You just bring yourself and a willingness to learn.
