Step-by-step itinerary

Nahatlatch River Rafting Adventure

  • Drive through Fraser Canyon
  • Arrive at REO Rafting Resort
  • Meet professional rafting guides
  • Raft 24 rapids on Nahatlatch River
  • Return to resort
  • Enjoy hot tub and facilities

The Experience

You arrive at REO Rafting Resort after a scenic drive through the Fraser Canyon and meet your guide and the five to seven other paddlers who will share your raft. The resort sits on the river's edge, ringed by forest and mountains, and you have an hour to settle in, use the facilities and get fitted for your wetsuit, helmet and lifejacket. The guide briefs you on paddle technique and safety, then you push off into the first of 24 rapids that run nearly continuously down the Nahatlatch — class 3 to 4+ water that keeps the paddle work steady without letting the river go slack.

The rapids are what set this run apart from other British Columbia rivers: they don't stop. You're paddling through whitewater for the full stretch, not paddling between stops, which is why REO has been running this section for more than 40 years and rates it the best whitewater adventure in the province. The guide reads the water and calls the paddle strokes, so your job is to follow the rhythm and keep the raft moving through the current. The boat is small enough that you feel the river's power but stable enough that first-timers paddle the same rapids as people who've done this a dozen times.

Around the midpoint, you pull over to the riverside dining deck for lunch and snacks, then head back out for the second half of the run. By the end you're back at the resort, where you can shower, change out of the wetsuit, and spend another hour in the hot tub or just drying off. Coffee and tea are waiting, and the parking is free.

Top questions

How many rapids will I actually paddle through on the Nahatlatch?

The Nahatlatch run includes 24 continuous rapids, rated class 3 to 4+, which means you're paddling through whitewater for most of the 4.5-hour trip rather than paddling between long flat sections.

Do I need rafting experience to book this trip?

No. The rapids are suitable for both first-timers and experienced paddlers, and your professional guide will brief you on paddle technique and safety before you launch.

What's included in the price besides the rafting?

Full-body wetsuit, booties, helmet, lifejacket, snacks, lunch on the riverside deck, coffee and tea, and 60 minutes of resort access before and after the trip to shower, change and use the hot tub.

What's the minimum age, and do kids need an adult?

Children can join from age 9. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult in the raft or at the resort.

Will the trip run if it rains?

Yes. Trips proceed rain or shine, and you'll be wearing a full wetsuit and helmet, so weather won't stop the adventure.

What happens if water levels change the river conditions?

REO reserves the right to move the trip to a different river if water levels make the Nahatlatch unsafe, but they'll notify you in advance.
