The Experience
Water the color of milky jade rushes toward you, and the raft tilts into the first real drop. The Sunwapta River cuts through Jasper National Park with a rhythm that starts calm—a float where you can find your paddle stroke, feel the current, get your bearings—then shifts. The rapids don't announce themselves; they just build, one after another, until The Whopper hits and everyone goes under. You're in a 6-person raft with a certified guide who's read this water a thousand times, and the glacial melt that makes it so cold also makes it so alive.
The trip starts 40 minutes south of the Jasper townsite, which means you're already deep in the park when you push off. The float section at the beginning isn't filler—it's where your guide watches how you hold the paddle, where you get used to the rhythm of the water, where the nervous energy settles into focus. Then the river tightens. The rapids build exactly as promised: harder, faster, closer together. The Whopper lives up to its name. You take out a few hundred meters above Sunwapta Falls, which means you're never far from the edge but always exactly where you need to be. The whole thing moves fast enough to feel real, long enough to matter.
Bring a bathing suit under your clothes—you will get soaked, and the water is cold because it's glacial. The park operates rain or shine, so dress for weather, not just water. All equipment is provided: the raft, paddles, life jacket, helmet. You need at least moderate fitness to paddle hard for the duration, and you have to be 12 or older. Show up 15 minutes early to the pickup location; if you're late, there's no refund and no rescheduling. It's a small detail, but it's how they keep the timing tight and the groups small.
What’s included
- All rafting equipment including raft, paddles, life jacket and helmet.

Where do I get picked up?
The pickup location is 40 minutes south of the Jasper townsite. Arrive 15 minutes early; if you're late, the trip departs without refund.
What's the age requirement?
