Pedal through post-wildfire forest and reach glacial lakes on an e-bike

A 25 km guided e-bike tour of Jasper National Park's back roads covers terrain inaccessible by bus, including stops at turquoise glacial lakes, white-sand beaches and quicksand ponds. The route passes through old growth and new growth forest recovering from the 2024 wildfire, with chances to spot elk, black bears, grizzly bears and bighorn sheep from a distance. An interpretive guide leads the tour in English. Riders need at least moderate fitness and must be 12 or older. Bikes come in two sizes to fit different heights.

Step-by-step itinerary

Guided e-bike tour with nature stops

  • Ride e-bike through Jasper back roads
  • Stop at Lake Edith beach
  • Dip feet in glacier-fed lake
  • Visit Lake Annette beach and quicksand pond
  • Observe wildlife from a distance

The experience

The 25 km route takes about three and a half hours and covers back roads of Jasper National Park that buses cannot reach. You'll stop at Lake Edith and Lake Annette, where you can wade into the turquoise glacial water and walk on white-sand beaches. The guide explains the ecology and geology of the region, including how wildfires shape the landscape. You'll ride through both old growth forest and areas emerging from the ash of the 2024 wildfire to see the recovery firsthand.

The e-bike does the pedaling work, so the effort is manageable even on longer stretches. You'll visit a real quicksand pond and have chances to observe wildlife from a safe distance: elk, black bears, grizzly bears and bighorn sheep all inhabit the park. The guide points out viewpoints and explains what you're seeing as you go, turning the ride into an interpretive experience rather than just a route.

Bikes come in two sizes (small for riders over 5'3" and large for those under 5'4"), so you choose the fit at checkout. The tour requires at least moderate cardiovascular fitness. It's not recommended for travelers with poor heart health. Public transportation options are available nearby if you need them to reach the meeting point.
