See how specialty coffee actually gets roasted, from green bean to cup.

A two-hour roasting experience at 14th Coffee Co, a working coffee roastery on a quiet Ontario farmstead, where you watch the Diedrich roaster in action, learn how different origins and profiles develop, tour the property's gardens and vintage structures, and leave with fresh-roasted beans of your choice. Includes all coffee and homestead drinks, a locally sourced charcuterie board, and a live guide in English. Minimum age 18.

The experience

What happens inside a coffee roaster? You'll stand in the roastery while the Diedrich roaster is running, watching green beans drop in and emerge hot and transformed. As the beans cool in the agitator and fill the air with roasted coffee smell, the guide walks you through how different origins and roast profiles come together: why one bean turns into a light roast and another into a dark blend, and what specialty coffee actually means. The whole process unfolds in front of you, not explained afterward.

After the roasting, you tour the 14th Coffee Co property itself: a refurbished barn, a 1950s truck, an Airstream, a farmhouse, and gardens and greenhouse you can walk through. The roastery's smell carries across the farmland and forest around it. You'll have another coffee drink and pastry while you're out there, then pick your favorite fresh-roasted beans to take home. The coffee you just watched being made.

The experience runs two hours total. All the coffee and homestead drinks are included, along with a seasonal charcuterie board of locally sourced cheeses, fruits and nuts. A live guide leads the whole thing in English.

Top questions

What does the roasting process actually look like when you're standing there?

You watch green beans drop into the Diedrich roaster and come out hot, then cool in the agitator while the roasted coffee smell fills the air. The guide explains how different origins and roast profiles develop during that time, so you see the transformation happen instead of just hearing about it afterward.

Do I get to take coffee home, or is it just for tasting?

You pick your favorite fresh-roasted beans at the end and take them home. The beans you choose are roasted during your visit, so they're the coffee you watched being made.

What's on the property besides the roastery?

14th Coffee Co sits on a farmstead with a refurbished barn, a vintage 1950s truck, an Airstream, a farmhouse, and gardens and greenhouse you can walk through. The whole setting is surrounded by farmland and forest, so it's quiet and good for photos if you want them.

Is there food included, or just coffee?

A locally sourced, seasonal charcuterie board with cheeses, fruits and nuts is included, along with all the coffee and homestead drinks you want during the two hours.

Do I need any coffee knowledge to do this?

No. The guide walks you through the roasting process and explains origins and profiles as you watch, so you learn as you go. It's suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the minimum age is 18.
