The experience
You arrive at the port or Independence Square and your English-speaking guide finds you with a name board. From there, the day moves through Sihanoukville's working side first: the fishing port where small boats line the harbor and fishermen explain their daily routine, then Phsar Leu market where vendors crowd stalls with fruit, seafood, clothing and street food. These are the places locals move through, not the tourist overlay.
The route then climbs to Wat Leu, a pagoda on a hilltop where you walk the temple steps and look out over the city, beaches and offshore islands below. Inside, you can ask a monk for a blessing if you want one. After that comes lunch at a local restaurant, then an hour of free time at Otres Beach to walk the sand or wade in. The guide meets you again and brings you back to the port on time for your ship.
Between the major stops, the tour also passes Independence Monument in a small park and includes a classroom visit at a local primary school where you meet elementary students. Bottled water travels with you in the air-conditioned vehicle, and all entry fees are covered. The whole day runs seven hours.
