Planasub in calm water, a sail past the twin peaks, a beach barbecue, and sunset over the sea

A three-hour boat activity in Fernando de Noronha combining the planasub (a shallow-water aquasub ride) in the port area and Biboca Beach, a passage by Morro Dois Irmãos, and an onboard barbecue at a beach stop, all timed to catch the sunset. The barbecue stop and exact route depend on sea and weather conditions. Rough seas trigger a land-based island tour instead. A live guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese.

Step-by-step itinerary

Sunset boat tour with activities

  • Start with PLANASUB in calm waters
  • Boat sails past secondary islands
  • Admire Morro Dois Irmãos landmark
  • Stop at Conceição or similar beach
  • Enjoy onboard fish or meat barbecue
  • Watch sunset over crystal-clear sea

The experience

The experience starts in the calm waters of the port area and Biboca Beach, where you ride the planasub (a shallow-water craft locals call a pranchinha) for direct contact with the sea without diving gear. After that, the boat heads out past the secondary islands toward Morro Dois Irmãos, the twin-peaked landmark that defines Fernando de Noronha's skyline and is the main photo stop of the afternoon.

On the return, the boat anchors at a beach (usually Conceição or another spot with good conditions that day), and the crew prepares a grilled fish or meat barbecue onboard while you swim or rest on the sand. The whole arc is built around watching the sunset over the water, a view that anchors the timing and the mood of the three hours.

Sea and weather conditions shape the route: if swells or rough seas arrive, the boat operator replaces the water tour with the Ilha Tour, a land-based loop of the island's main viewpoints and attractions. Infants travel free on an adult's lap. Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable shoes, and cash or card for any extras not covered by the tour.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want to combine water activity, scenery and a meal in one afternoon without committing to a full day. The three-hour window fits easily into a port call or a day split between multiple island activities, and the planasub gives you a different way to connect with the water than snorkeling or diving alone.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

What is the planasub and how does it work in Fernando de Noronha?

The planasub, or pranchinha, is a shallow-water aquasub that lets you experience the sea without diving equipment or snorkeling skills. You ride it in the calm port waters and around Biboca Beach early in the tour, staying in contact with the water and marine life in a way that feels more immersive than a regular boat ride but requires no special training.

What happens if the sea is too rough on the day of my tour?

If swells or rough seas make the water tour unsafe, the operator switches to the Ilha Tour, a land-based excursion that covers the main attractions and viewpoints of Fernando de Noronha island itself. You still get a guided experience of the island's scenery and landmarks, just from the shore instead of the water.

Is the barbecue included, and what if I don't eat meat or fish?

The barbecue stop is part of the tour and includes grilled fish or meat prepared onboard at a beach anchorage. The tour does not cover food and drink beyond what the crew prepares. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences, bring your own snacks or inform the operator in advance.

How long is the three-hour tour, and when does it end relative to sunset?

The tour runs three hours total and is timed so the sunset happens during the beach barbecue stop on the return, making it the centerpiece of the afternoon rather than a rush at the end. Exact timing shifts with the season and the day's sea conditions.
