Step-by-step itinerary

Brunch and sailing tour in Guanabara Bay

  • Start tour at Marina da Glória
  • Sail around Guanabara Bay
  • View Christ the Redeemer
  • View Sugarloaf Mountain
  • Pass Rio's defensive forts
  • See Museum of Contemporary Art

The Experience

The morning didn’t start as planned — I’d forgotten my sunglasses (classic), so I squinted my way down to Marina da Glória. The boat was easy to spot, all chatter and bright towels. Our guide, João, greeted us like he already knew half the group. He handed me a chilled bottle of water and grinned, “You’ll need this.” I didn’t realize how right he was until we pulled away from the dock and that salty breeze hit — not cold, just enough to wake you up.

We drifted past the fortresses guarding Guanabara Bay, João pointing out which ones had survived old battles (and which had better stories). The city looked different from the water — Sugarloaf Mountain just kind of hovered there in the haze. Someone started laughing when a plane skimmed low over Santos Dumont Airport; for a second it looked like it might land on us. There was focaccia and fruit laid out for brunch, but honestly I kept going back for more pineapple. It tasted like actual sunshine.

About halfway through, we anchored near Adam and Eve Beach. The water was clearer than I expected — cold at first but then perfect once you got moving. A couple from São Paulo dared each other to jump in first (she won). João mixed up caipirinhas while we dried off; he tried to teach me how to say “saúde” properly but gave up after three tries and just laughed. The Museum of Contemporary Art glowed white against the skyline. For a minute everyone got quiet watching the light shift across Christ the Redeemer’s shoulders — not sure why that sticks with me.

I picked the sunset cruise because I thought Rio would look best in gold light, but honestly any time works if you’re after good company and city views. On the way back we all leaned against the railings as Rio lit up behind us, music playing low. I still think about that pineapple sometimes.

What’s included

Your day includes safety equipment for peace of mind, unlimited soda or pop plus bottled water to keep cool under Rio’s sun, fresh fruit and focaccia served as light snacks during brunch hours or alongside sunset drinks—plus caipirinha cocktails and beer mixed up by your local guide as you sail past iconic sights before returning to port.
