The experience

The first thing I noticed was the crisp air: Monte Verde mornings have this fresh scent, almost like eucalyptus mixed with earth after a light rain. Our photographer-guide kept things relaxed: he’d chat about local stories or point out a hidden orchid by the path, then somehow catch you laughing or lost in thought for those candid shots. I barely noticed him snapping away until he showed me a photo of myself with wind-tangled hair and that goofy grin you get when you’re just having fun. Around halfway through, we paused near a tiny roadside café (the owner’s dog barked at our bikes but wagged his tail anyway). By afternoon, the sun warmed up enough that I was glad I’d layered up.
