Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Guarani culture and Jaraguá peak
- Visit Guarani indigenous community
- Talk with young community leaders at Opy
- Learn Xondaro Fighting Dance move
- Explore Atlantic forest protected by Guarani
- Enjoy panoramic view from Jaraguá peak
- See historical house, lake, and trails
The experience
The tour centers on a Guarani settlement that has held its land inside São Paulo for generations, keeping the Atlantic forest intact while the city grew around it. You meet young community leaders at the Opy, the traditional prayer temple, and ask questions through a multilingual guide who speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. The exchange is direct: you learn how the community protects the forest and what daily life looks like in a place most São Paulo residents don't know exists.
The physical part of the day includes learning the Xondaro Fighting Dance, a traditional movement you practice yourself, and walking the forest trails that the Guarani have maintained. The park holds three trails, a lake, and a historical house. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The tour then climbs to Jaraguá Peak, the highest point in São Paulo at 1,135 meters, where the panorama stretches 55 kilometers across the city. On clear days, the view alone justifies the climb.
Transportation and guiding are included. The community charges a local fee of 150 Brazilian reals per person, paid in cash on arrival. If you want lunch, nearby restaurants cost around 200 reals per person. The four-hour commitment is firm, so plan the rest of your day accordingly.

Is this one for you?Four hours is long enough to meet community leaders, learn a traditional dance, walk the forest and reach the peak, but tight enough that you cannot add a full meal or a second major stop to the same afternoon. If you want lunch, plan it before or after the tour rather than during it.
