The Experience
The tour starts from the agency and heads straight to the Television Tower, the first of many stops where your guide explains how Brasilia's architecture shapes the way people actually live here. You'll ride past the TV Tower Craft Fair, then into Clube do Choro (a Niemeyer concert hall and music school where over a thousand students learn traditional Brazilian instruments) before moving through the Monumental Axis itself. The National Congress, Cathedral of Brasília, and Itamaraty Palace appear not as distant monuments but as destinations you approach on your own pace, stopping to photograph and absorb the scale of each one.
The route splits between the city's different zones. You'll cycle through the Residential Scale (the Superquadras, or residential blocks, designed by Lucio Costa with landscaping by Burle Marx) to understand how ordinary people occupy the modernist plan. Then into the Gregarious Scale, the South Commercial Sector, where the city's daily life happens: shops, cafes, pedestrian flows, and recent renovations like Praça do Povo, which won an architecture award in 2021. The Bucolic Scale appears in the Burle Marx Garden and the larger urban parks. Throughout, your guide points out the differences between each scale and why this 1960 urban experiment still matters to architecture worldwide. An optional subway ride with your bikes lets you cover ground impossible by pedal alone, shifting perspective entirely.
Bring water and a helmet (both are provided), and expect to spend roughly six hours in the saddle and at stops. Children from age 1 can join (ask about the tandem trailer for ages 4–12 when you book), and the tour suits all fitness levels. Public transport is nearby if you need a break, and the guide speaks your language.

What is Lucio Costa's four scales, and why does the tour visit all of them?
Lucio Costa designed Brasilia around four urban scales: Monumental (government buildings and civic spaces), Gregarious (commercial and cultural zones where people gather), Residential (the Superquadras, or residential blocks), and Bucolic (parks and green areas). The tour visits all four to show how each one functions differently and how they fit together in the modernist plan that shaped the city in 1960.
Does the tour include entry to the National Congress, Cathedral or other monuments?
The tour passes by and stops at these landmarks (the National Congress, Cathedral of Brasília, Itamaraty Palace, and many others), so you see them up close and your guide explains their architecture and history. Entry fees to interiors are not included. The focus is on the exteriors, the urban spaces around them, and how they sit within the city's design.
What happens during the optional subway ride mentioned in the description?
The optional subway transport lets you and your bike cover sections of the city that are impossible to reach by pedal. You board with your bicycle, travel to another part of the route, and continue cycling from there. This shift in perspective (seeing the city from underground transit and then from the bike again) is part of how the tour shows different ways of moving through Brasilia.
Can I bring my young child on this bike tour?
Children from age 1 are welcome. For children ages 4 to 12, an articulated tandem passenger trailer attaches to your bike so they ride along without pedaling. Ask about the trailer when you book to make sure it's available for your departure.
How long does the tour actually take, and what should I bring?
The tour lasts approximately six hours and includes numerous stops for explanations, photos and rest. Helmets and two 500ml bottles of mineral water are provided. The bicycle is included. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for cycling, and bring sunscreen and any personal items you need during the ride.
