The experience

The tour leaves Fortaleza at 3am from your hotel and heads inland by 4x4, stopping for breakfast (your own cost) before switching vehicles in Jijoca. The East Coast route crosses Lagoa do Paraíso with its clear water, the Blue Hole sinkhole, Tree of Preguiça and Praia do Preá before arriving at the Villa de Jericoacoara for check-in. Your first night is free to walk the village and beach on your own time.

Day two is unscheduled: you can rest at the B&B or book the optional West Coast tour, which runs through mangrove beaches, a horse ride along the shore, the exposed-root forest, a zip line and toboggan run through the dunes, and Grand Lake. The itinerary notes this as a separate booking, so confirm it when you reserve if you want it included.

On the final morning you have time until checkout at noon: many travelers climb Pedra Grande at dawn or swim at the main beach. The return departs at 4:30pm, stopping to watch the sunset in the dunes (weather permitting) before the 4x4 swap in Jijoca and the drive back to Fortaleza, arriving close to midnight.
