It positions you in the reserve during the hours when wildlife is most active and visible.

After a morning tea and light breakfast at South Gate, you enter the reserve itself. The landscape shifts between tall woodlands and spreading floodplains fringed with palms, and your guide uses knowledge of the area to track sightings. Elephant, hippo, crocodile, buffalo, impala, giraffe, tsessebe, zebra, blue wildebeest, sable antelope, greater kudu, red lechwe and waterbuck are common. Lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and African wild dog appear less predictably but are possible. The reserve also holds surprising bird diversity (water birds and forest dwellers), so birding runs alongside the larger game throughout the day.
