The experience

The day opens at Blagaj, where you walk under the cliffs toward the 16th-century Islamic monastery sitting by the cool Buna river. The setting itself is the teaching: the scale of the rock face, the sound of the water, the way the building fits into the landscape. From there you move to Žitomislski, the Orthodox monastery where the sacred art and the architecture tell you as much about medieval religious life as any text could. The two monasteries back-to-back show you how different faiths shaped the same valley.

Radimlja Necropolis holds medieval tombstones called stecci, carved with drawings and inscriptions by known and unknown artisans. The stones reveal life and death in the Bosnian kingdom and its duchies: what they show and what they hide are equally part of the mystery. Počitelj comes next: narrow, winding streets lead uphill to a medieval castle overlooking the Neretva valley. You stop in the shade of fig trees for freshly squeezed fruit juice, a local specialty. The castle itself dominates the view from below and rewards the climb from above.

Kravice cascades are both visual and physical: you swim in the cool waters of the Trebizat river beneath the falls on a hot day, or simply watch them from the bank. The final stop is Kameni Vinogradi, where you taste the wines of Herzegovina in a typical karstic vineyard setting. These wines were once served only at royal courts. The tour runs eight hours total, with an air-conditioned minivan and a driver-guide handling the route between sites.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (3 to 12 years); Infant (under 3): free.

What is the Blagaj monastery and why does the tour start there?

Blagaj is a 16th-century Islamic monastery built into the cliff face beside the Buna river, one of the most visually striking religious sites in the region. The walk beneath the limestone cliffs to reach it sets the tone for the day: the landscape itself is part of the heritage you are seeing.

Will I have time to swim at Kravice cascades, or is it just a viewing stop?

Kravice cascades are included as both a visual and a swimming experience. You can enter the water if you choose, or stay on the bank. The tour is built around the option to swim beneath the falls during the warmer months.

What kind of wines will I taste at Kameni Vinogradi?

Kameni Vinogradi produces the wines of Herzegovina, grown in the karstic vineyard setting typical of the region. The tasting takes place in the vineyard itself, and the wines served were historically reserved for royal courts.

Does the tour include entrance fees to the monasteries and other sites?

The tour includes transport, the guide, hotel pickup and wine tasting. Entrance fees to the sites are not included and are paid separately at each location.
