The experience

The setup takes time because night diving requires precision: you'll check your equipment carefully, and the guide will brief you on the exact moment to enter the water, which matters because bioluminescence is strongest at a specific point in the evening.

Once underwater, you move slowly and deliberately. Every motion (a hand through the water, a fin stroke, even exhaled bubbles) triggers a cascade of light from the organisms around you. The guide carries a specialized divelight and knows where to position the group to see the most bioluminescence. You'll see ostracods and other creatures that glow on contact, creating an effect unlike anything most divers ever experience.
