The experience
Pickup happens at 10 a.m. from your hotel. After a safety check and bike fitting, you drive toward the salt flats and stop first at the Train Cemetery, where rusted locomotives sit abandoned in the desert: a quick photo stop before moving on. Next is a visit to local salt processing plants, where you see how artisans work the salt by hand. Then you get on the bike.
The pedaling starts across the largest salt desert in the world. Your guide rides alongside you, and a private 4x4 Land Cruiser stays with the group the whole time, so you can ride as long as you want and rest whenever you need to. Lunch arrives in the middle of the salt flats: a private meal with views of the volcano across the white expanse. After eating, you cycle to the Island of the giant cacti, another stop where the landscape shifts and the cacti rise out of the salt.
The day ends with sunset in the salt flats. As the sun drops, the salt surface reflects the colors like a mirror. A local wine and a toast mark the finish, and then the drive back to Uyuni. The whole experience runs about 8 hours from pickup to drop-off.
