The experience

The tour starts with airport pickup and a La Paz city tour on day one. You visit Plaza Murillo, the Presidential Palace, San Francisco Church and the Valley of the Moon, then ride the cable car before settling into Hotel Rosario. Day two flies you to Sucre, where a colonial city walk takes in Plaza 25 de Mayo and Cretaceous Park before an overnight in a 5-star hotel. On day three, you drive to Potosí to tour the Cerro Rico mines, then continue to Uyuni and the salt hotel for the night.

Day four is the full Salar de Uyuni experience. You start at 10 a.m. to see the train cemetery, walk across the white expanse, visit Incahuasi Island and view the Tunupa Volcano from the salt flat's edge. After sunset you fly back to La Paz. Day five takes you by private vehicle to Lake Titicaca near Copacabana. You visit Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna to see local island life before returning to La Paz. On the final day, a 3-hour drive reaches the Tiwanaku archaeological site, where you walk the Door of the Sun, Puma Punku and the monoliths (mysteries of an empire still being understood), then return to La Paz for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.

The guide speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese and travels with you throughout. Breakfast and lunch are included each day. Hotels range from 3-star in La Paz to 5-star in Sucre, and the salt hotel in Uyuni is included. All internal flights, ground transport, activities and entrance fees to sites are arranged. You just show up at pickup.

What is the Salar de Uyuni like when you get there?

Tiwanaku is an ancient archaeological site 3 hours from La Paz. You visit the Door of the Sun, Puma Punku and the monoliths: structures of an empire still considered a mystery by archaeologists. The tour covers the site on day six before returning you to La Paz.

What meals are included?
