The experience

Day one starts with airport pickup and a 3-star hotel check-in at Hotel Rosario in La Paz. At 2 p.m. your guide meets you for a city tour hitting Plaza Murillo, the Presidential Palace, San Francisco Church, and the striking geological formations of Valle de la Luna, with a cable car ride included. You're back at the hotel by evening.

Day two leaves at 8 a.m. for Copacabana and Lake Titicaca, where you board a private boat to visit Sun Island and Moon Island, seeing traditional Aymara culture and local customs. After lunch you drive three hours back to La Paz airport and fly to Uyuni, arriving at 8 p.m. at a 4-star salt hotel on the edge of the flats. The flight is included.

Day three is the salt flats proper: you visit the train cemetery with Bolivia's first locomotives, watch salt harvesting in Colchani, then drive into the Salar de Uyuni itself to Incahuasi Island, where giant cacti frame the landscape and you eat lunch. A stop for flamingoes and distant views of Tunupa Volcano follows, then you return to Uyuni for sunset over the flats before flying back to La Paz and checking into Hotel Gloria.

Day four takes you to Tiwanaku archaeological site at 8 a.m. to see the Gate of the Sun, Puma Punku, and the site museums, then back to La Paz airport by 11 a.m. for your departure flight. Breakfast and lunch are included each day. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese.
