Maya King Waterfalls from Hopkins: Swim without the hike
Three tiers, no strenuous hike to reach them
A four-hour tour from Hopkins Village to Maya King Waterfalls includes round-trip transport, a local guide, and time to swim in mountain pools fed by a three-tiered cascade in the Maya Mountains foothills. The defining trait is the short walk: most jungle waterfalls require hours of trekking, but a 2-minute path from the parking area puts you straight into the water. Children from age 6 are welcome. The pace is relaxed and suited to families and casual swimmers.

The experience
The drive out takes 40 minutes along the Southern Highway, moving inland from the coast through countryside and lush greenery until you reach Maya King Village. Your guide parks in a designated area, then it's a short walk to the falls themselves. That brevity is the whole point: you're not spending your time on a trail. You're in the water.
The waterfall system has three levels, each one different. The upper tier is smaller and more intimate, good for quiet moments and close views of the cascade. The middle and lower pools are wider and deeper, built for swimming and wading. The jungle canopy overhead filters sunlight into patterns on the water, and the sound of tropical birds carries over the falls. You float, you rest, you move between pools at whatever pace feels right. Bottled water and snacks are included.
After you've swum and dried off, the return journey follows the same route back to Hopkins, giving you time to sit with what you've seen. The whole outing is four hours door to door.
