Harrison's Cave & St. Nicholas Abbey Tour with Rum Tasting
Two landmarks in one morning, without arranging the transport
A small group tour of Harrison's Cave and St. Nicholas Abbey in Barbados, departing between 8:00am and 8:30am from your hotel. You travel by air-conditioned minivan with a professional guide and fewer than 12 other guests, visiting the central uplands limestone cavern and the plantation's great house, boiling house and rum distillery. Hotel pickup and drop-off, guide, shared transport and rum tasting are included.
The Experience
What do you see first—the cave or the plantation? The tour runs about four hours, and your guide decides the sequence based on the group and the day. Harrison's Cave sits in the central uplands, a crystallized limestone cavern with flowing streams, deep pools and towering columns of white flowstone. St. Nicholas Abbey is a 350-year-old plantation house that an architect bought in 2006 to preserve it. The great house holds antiques and artifacts spanning the home's full history; the boiling house and rum distillery show where St. Nicholas Abbey Rum is made.
The minivan picks you up from your hotel at a time confirmed when you book, then collects the rest of the group before heading out. Fewer than 12 guests travel together, which keeps the pace manageable at both stops. Your guide is a local who knows the sites and can answer questions as you move through them. At the plantation, the guided tour of the great house is complimentary; at the cave, you walk the passages and pools at your own pace with the guide available. A rum tasting is included, so you taste the product made on the plantation grounds.
The tour runs in the morning and wraps by early afternoon, leaving the rest of your day open. Dress is smart casual, and the tour is subject to favorable weather—if poor conditions force a cancellation, you get an alternate date or a full refund. Infants can ride in a pram or stroller, and small children sit on an adult's lap. A minimum of two people is required to run the tour; if bookings fall short after confirmation, you'll be offered an alternative or your money back.
