Explore Padma Bridge, Bagerhat, Sundarbans

  • Visit Padma Bridge
  • Tour historic mosques in Bagerhat
  • Explore Sundarbans mangrove forest

The experience

The day starts with a crossing of the Padma Bridge, the 6.15-kilometer steel and concrete span that connects Bangladesh's northeastern and southwestern regions. From there, the route heads to Bagerhat, the historical city founded in the fifteenth century on the Bhairab River and recognized by UNESCO in 1985 as a world cultural heritage site for its concentration of traditional Islamic monuments. You walk among the Six-Domed Mosque, the Singair Mosque, the Mausoleum of Ulugh Khanjahan and the Nine-Domed Mosque: structures that survive from the era when the city was known as Khalifatabad, one of the world's fifteen lost historical cities.

The second half moves into the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest on earth and a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning the delta where the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers meet. A boat carries you through tidal rivers and creeks where the ecosystem supports Royal Bengal Tigers, spotted deer, crocodiles and hundreds of bird species. The forest also acts as a natural barrier protecting the coastal region from storms and erosion. Lunch and snacks are provided during the day. The vehicle is air-conditioned and WiFi is available on board.
