The experience
You leave Baku at 9:00 AM and drive nearly three hours to Qachrash Forest, a 500-hectare mixed deciduous woodland at the foot of the Greater Caucasus. The forest sustains cervids, wild boars and numerous bird species. Streams and minor waterfalls cut through the oaks, beeches and hornbeams. A 30-minute observational walk suits photography and short interpretive hikes before the guide moves the group onward.
An 80-minute transfer brings you to Khinalug Village, one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in the Caucasus. At 2,180 meters, the village has been occupied for over 5,000 years and is home to about 2,000 residents who speak Ketsh, a language isolate within the Northeast Caucasian family. You spend 90 minutes with the guide exploring local museums, the Sakina Khanum Mosque and the surrounding alpine meadows, medicinal flora and three geologically linked lakes. An authentic Azerbaijani meal is part of the stop.
The final 80-minute drive takes you to Red Village, founded in 1742 and the world's only all-Jewish village outside Israel and the United States. A private guide leads a 60-minute visit to the Mountain Jews Museum and nearby heritage sites that preserve the architecture and traditions of Azerbaijan's Mountain Jewish community. The return to Baku takes approximately three hours, with drop-off at your original meeting point. The full day runs 11 hours including all transfers, guided visits and meals.
