The experience

The trip starts with a ride in an open Italian APE (a three-wheeled vehicle that seats up to three) heading into the vineyards that overlook Vienna. The APE itself is part of the experience: you're traveling through the landscape in something small and distinctive, not enclosed in a car. If you reserve ahead, the operator brings chilled wine and glasses for the journey, so the picnic begins before you arrive.

Once you reach the site, you settle onto a blanket with cushions on the mountainside and spend around two hours there. The snack box is freshly prepared and built around Austrian local food (cheese, salami, bacon and vegetables) along with water and wine to drink. There's no schedule to keep. The time is yours to sit, eat and take in the view over Vienna from the vineyard.
