The Experience
You board a traditional wooden boat in Spitz and spend the next two hours floating downstream through the Wachau Valley. The route passes Arnsdorf, St. Michael, Rossatz, Joching, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein—small villages that cling to the riverbanks and terraced vineyards that rise steeply from the water. A live guide in English or German narrates the landscape and the wine regions as you move, and you taste wines from producers whose vineyards you can see from the boat.
The boat itself is the setting: traditional wooden construction means you are on the water in a way that feels deliberate, not rushed through on a ferry. The tasting happens aboard as the Danube carries you, so the wine and the view arrive together. After reaching Dürnstein, the boat turns around and brings you back to Spitz, completing the loop.
