Step-by-step itinerary
Yarra Valley wine tasting and lunch
- Sparkling wine tasting at Domaine Chandon
- Lunch at Soumah’s AI FIORI Trattoria
- Cheese and wine pairing at De Bortoli Estate
- Wild kangaroo viewing at Heritage Golf Club
The experience
The day opens at Domaine Chandon with a range tasting of sparkling wines and a self-guided walk through the estate: one of only six Chandon properties in the world. From there you move to Soumah restaurant, where lunch is the centerpiece: a shared antipasti board followed by your choice of four mains (pork scallopini, grilled barramundi, slow-cooked beef rib ragu, or roasted vegetable risotto), each paired with a glass of wine hand-picked from your earlier tasting. The menu shifts with the seasons and the region's produce.
After lunch comes a cheese and wine pairing at De Bortoli Estate, hosted in their VIP room with a curated selection matched to their wines, including the multi-award-winning Noble One dessert wine. If De Bortoli is unavailable due to private events, you'll visit St Huberts Estate instead for an equally refined pairing in a vineyard setting. On the return to your hotel, the driver slows at Heritage Golf and Country Club, where a large mob of wild kangaroos lives on the Jack Nicklaus-designed courses. Most travelers spend this moment with cameras ready.
The tour runs seven hours total and includes an air-conditioned vehicle, a fully qualified English-speaking guide, bottled water, and WiFi on board. Hotel pickup is included. Groups stay between four and eight guests depending on bookings for that date.

Top questions
What is Domaine Chandon and why is it special?
Domaine Chandon is one of only six Chandon estates in the world, located in the Yarra Valley. You'll taste a range of their sparkling wines and have time to explore the estate on your own.
What kind of food will I eat at lunch?
Lunch is at Soumah restaurant and centers on Northern Italian cuisine. You'll start with a shared antipasti board of cured meats, pickled and roasted vegetables, then choose from four mains: pork scallopini with lemon and caper, grilled barramundi with green beans, slow-cooked beef rib ragu, or roasted carrot and parsnip risotto. Your main course comes with a glass of wine paired to match.
Will I see the kangaroos?
Yes. On the drive back to your hotel, the tour stops at Heritage Golf and Country Club, where a large wild mob of kangaroos lives on the courses. The guide takes time here for photography, and this is often the most photographed moment of the day.
What is included in the cheese and wine pairing?
