The experience

You arrive, check in, and go through a safety briefing with your tandem instructor. The person you'll be attached to for the entire jump. Then you board the plane and climb to altitude while the island spreads out below you: Rottnest's turquoise bays, the Perth city skyline, and the Western Australian coastline beyond. At jump altitude, you exit the aircraft with your instructor and experience up to 66 seconds of free fall before the parachute opens.

The parachute ride lasts about five minutes, and from that height you have unobstructed views of the island the whole way down. Your landing spot is the beach itself: one of the reasons this jump stands apart from skydiving over most other locations. You touch down on sand instead of a drop zone, which is where the experience ends and the adrenaline settles.

The whole outing, from the moment you walk in to the moment you're back on solid ground, takes about two and a half hours. Your instructor is English-speaking and certified in tandem instruction. If you want video or photos of the jump, you can purchase those packages on the day itself. Weather is the only variable that might change your plans: skydiving depends on conditions, so you'll need to call ahead at least an hour before your ferry departure time to confirm the jump is on.

Is this one for you?Book the 15,000-foot jump if you want the longest possible parachute ride and the most time to absorb the views on the way down. The 10,000-foot option works just as well if you prefer a quicker, more streamlined experience. Either way, you're attached to an instructor the entire time, so no skydiving certification is needed. Just moderate fitness and the willingness to jump.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the difference between the 15,000-foot and 10,000-foot jump?

Both jumps include the same instructor, free fall time, parachute ride and beach landing. The 15,000-foot option gives you a longer descent under the parachute and more time to take in the views. The 10,000-foot option is a shorter, more compact version of the same experience.

Can I bring my phone or camera to record the jump?

You cannot hold a camera or phone during the jump itself. Video and photo packages are available for purchase on the day: your instructor or a camera flyer will capture the jump, and you'll have the footage afterward.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day I'm booked?

Skydiving depends on weather conditions. You must call at least an hour before your ferry departure time to confirm the jump is operating. If weather cancels your jump, you can reschedule for another day.

Do I need to get myself to Rottnest Island, or is transport included?

Transport to and from the island is available to purchase as an add-on at checkout. If you arrange your own ferry, public transportation options are available nearby the skydive location.

What's the minimum age to skydive here?

The minimum age is 16 years old. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present on the day of the jump.

Is there a weight limit for the tandem skydive?

The standard weight limit is 95 kilograms. Jumpers between 95 and 110 kilograms may be approved on a case-by-case basis. Contact the operator with your exact weight and height in centimeters before booking to confirm eligibility.
