The experience
You arrive at Hillarys Boat Harbour, check in with your tandem instructor, complete the safety briefing and paperwork, then board the ferry to Rottnest Island. The crossing itself is part of the day: Rottnest Fast Ferries handles the transport, and your ferry ticket is included. Once on the island, you head to the skydive operation for your jump.
The plane climbs to your chosen altitude (either 10,000ft or 15,000ft), and you exit with your instructor strapped to your harness. Free fall lasts up to 66 seconds before the parachute opens. During the descent, you get unobstructed views of the island below. The landing happens on one of Australia's most beautiful beaches, so you touch down on sand rather than a drop zone. You're a member of the Australian Parachute Federation for the day, and your instructor handles all the technical work. Your job is to jump and experience it.
After landing, you have time on the island before catching the return ferry back to Hillarys. If you want video or photos of the jump, those packages are available to add on the day itself. Weather is the only variable: skydiving depends on conditions, so you'll need to call ahead at least an hour before your ferry departure to confirm the jump is on.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I choose how high I jump?
Yes. You pick either a 10,000ft skydive or a 15,000ft skydive when you book. The higher altitude gives you a longer free fall and more time to take in the view before the parachute opens.
What is the ferry like from Hillarys to Rottnest Island?
Rottnest Fast Ferries operates the service, and your same-day return ticket is included in the package. The crossing gets you to the island, and the return ferry departs after your jump so you can spend time on Rottnest between landing and heading back to the mainland.
Do I need to be fit to skydive?
You need at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The minimum age is 16 (a parent or guardian must be present for anyone under 18), and there is a weight limit of 95kg. Passengers between 95kg and 110kg can jump with pre-approval from the operator, so contact them beforehand if you're in that range.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
Skydiving is weather-dependent. You must call the operator at least an hour before your ferry departure time to confirm the jump is going ahead. If conditions aren't safe, they'll reschedule or refund you.
Can I get video or photos of my jump?
Hand cam video and photo packages are available to purchase on the day of your jump, so you can decide once you're there whether you want to capture the experience.
