At the summit, you have 40 minutes to walk the lookout and observation decks and take in the views across Hobart and its surrounding suburbs (weather permitting). The descent takes another 50 minutes, with the alpine scenery visible from both sides of the bus, and you may spot some of the hundreds of animals that live on the mountain.
After a 30-minute break at Brooke Street Pier to explore the waterfront, you board the Coal River Valley Explorer Bus at 12:30 pm for the Richmond leg. The route crosses the Tasman Bridge to the eastern shore, then arrives at Richmond Village. The Richmond Bridge, built by convicts in 1823, is Australia's oldest bridge still in use. You get three hours of free time to wander the village's historic streets, visit Australia's oldest Catholic Church, browse antique and giftware shops, and stop at local cafes. A free walking map is provided, and you'll have access to exclusive discounts at some of Richmond's best shops, cafes and attractions.
