The experience

The drive north from Sydney takes you through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park before the valley opens up. You'll start in the city itself: a stop at The Rocks to see Sydney's convict history, then past the Queen Victoria Building and St Mary's Cathedral in the CBD, and up to the Opera House steps for the view most people come to Sydney to get. By the time you reach Hunter Valley, you've crossed the whole geography of the region in a single morning.
