The Experience

The Ocean Defender leaves Hervey Bay and heads into Platypus Bay, the world's first Whale Heritage Site and a resting ground for East Australian Humpbacks during their migration. The boat is purpose-built for small-group tours, which means you get water-level views and the manoeuvrability to position closer to the whales without the scale and noise of a larger vessel. The three-hour tour runs in all weather, so bring layers and waterproof gear—the operators prioritise sightings over comfort conditions, and that is what makes the guarantee work.
