The Experience

The tour starts early from Hobart and heads into Tasmania's remote west coast, passing through New Norfolk toward Mount Field National Park. There you walk among some of the tallest trees on the planet and stand beneath Russell Falls while searching for platypus in the water. The drive then crosses the Tasmania Wilderness World Heritage Area and stops at Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park before reaching Queenstown, where the old mining buildings and pubs sit among the hills. You'll spend the night in lakeside accommodation near Cradle Mountain—either a multi-share room or a private room with your own facilities, depending on which option you choose at checkout.

Day two takes you through temperate rainforest to Cradle Mountain National Park. Before the hike, wildlife spotting often turns up wombats grazing near the road. You then choose between two trails: Dove Lake Circuit is an easy 6km walk taking 2–3 hours with views of Cradle Mountain and rainforest, or Marions Lookout is a more challenging 3-hour option for hikers wanting steeper terrain and higher altitude. The guide leads the group and points out the landscape and any animals that cross the path.

On the return to Hobart, the route stops in the town of Deloraine and then climbs over the Central Highlands with a stop at Great Lakes Lookout before dropping back down to the city. Transport, national park tickets, the Cradle Mountain shuttle bus and breakfast are all included; you bring your own lunch or buy it in Queenstown or Deloraine.
