Step-by-step itinerary

Fishing, diving and BBQ yacht trip

  • Cruise southern Tasmania coastal waters
  • Pass North West Bay and salmon pens
  • Fish and dive at reef and kelp forest
  • Anchor for gourmet BBQ near South Bruny Island
  • Enjoy hands-on boating on return trip

The experience

What makes this half-day different is that you're not just watching the water pass. You're in it. The boat cruises through southern Tasmania's coastal routes, passing rugged cliffs and secluded bays while the crew watches for dolphins, seals, and sea eagles. The route shifts each day based on conditions, so the scenery and wildlife encounters change. You'll pass North West Bay and the salmon farming pens where seals often gather, then arrive at the Tinderbox Marine Reserve's fishing and diving grounds.

Once anchored, divers descend into one of the finest reef systems around Hobart, where the closest giant kelp forest to the city grows in cold water alongside corals found nowhere else nearby. You can collect Southern Rock Lobster, abalone, and sea urchins while you're down there. Anglers work the same grounds from the deck, targeting blue-throat, cod, gurnard perch, and other local species. Fishing gear and bait are provided. The area is a shark protection zone, so any sharks caught go back unharmed.

The boat anchors in a calm bay near South Bruny Island for the onboard BBQ. A gourmet meal built from what you've caught and premium Tasmanian produce: A5-M9 Wagyu beef, lamb cutlets, fresh salmon sashimi, Pacific oysters, seasonal fruit, and dessert. Coconut water, juices, and soft drinks are included throughout. On the return, the crew picks calm waters where you can take a turn at the helm and get photos of yourself steering the boat.

Is this one for you?The 4.5-hour duration means you're in the water and at the table for a full morning or afternoon, so this works best if you can commit the time and are comfortable with several hours on a boat. The diving and fishing both happen in the same session, so you're choosing one activity or splitting your time between them. Pick this if you want to do both rather than focus on one.
