The experience

What makes a Chardonnay from Hunter Valley different from one grown somewhere else? You find out by tasting five of them side by side. At Winmark Wines, the tasting runs 45 minutes to an hour, and each wine comes with sparkling water to cleanse your palate between pours. The olives are estate-grown and award-winning. The almonds and apricots are there to complement the wine's flavors and give you something to eat while you taste. The vineyard views sit behind the whole experience. You're not just drinking wine, you're standing in the place it came from.

Your $15 tasting fee isn't a sunk cost. If you buy three or more bottles during or after the tasting, the fee comes off your purchase. That means the tasting itself can be free if you decide to take a bottle home. The venue welcomes families and service animals, and the space is wheelchair accessible, so the setup doesn't narrow who can show up. A sculpture walk and art gallery are also on the grounds if you want to wander after the tasting ends. The sculpture walk has a small separate fee.

The tasting is led by a live guide who speaks English or Danish, depending on your group. No wine experience is required: the guide walks you through what you're tasting and why it matters, whether you're new to wine or you've been drinking it for years.

Is this one for you?The tasting works best for small groups or individuals who want to understand what makes Hunter Valley Chardonnay distinctive without committing to a full day of wine touring.
