"You've got to see it from above to understand what's happening down there," our pilot said as we climbed out of Broome, and he wasn't wrong. The Horizontal Waterfalls aren't like any waterfall you've seen — they're tidal phenomena that David Attenborough called the 8th Natural Wonder of the World, and from the plane you watch the water move sideways through narrow gaps in the Buccaneer Archipelago, a scatter of 1,000 islands made of sandstone that's over 2 billion years old. The flight circles low enough that you see the red cliffs at Cape Leveque rising up, and then you're heading inland toward Cygnet Bay.

At the pearl farm, the tour walks you through how they cultivate some of the world's most sought-after pearls — the kind of detail that sounds dry until you're holding one and someone explains what it took to grow it. Lunch happens on-site, and then there's a swim in the farm's pool to cool off before the return flight.
