The experience
The day starts with a pickup from your Yerevan hotel and a drive toward Aragats Mountain. The jeep takes you to Lake Kari, a high-altitude lake sitting at 3,207 meters above sea level, which serves as the trailhead for the hike. From there, you climb to the southern peak of Aragats on foot: a 4 to 5 hour hike at altitude that demands steady legs and acclimatized lungs. The guide leads the way and carries water. You bring the fitness and the right gear (hiking boots, rain-proof jacket, sun protection).
At the summit, you stop for a picnic lunch before the descent begins. The hike down retraces the route back to Lake Kari, where the jeep waits. From there, the driver takes you to Amberd Fortress, a medieval ruin perched on a ridge overlooking the Ararat plain. After time to walk the fortress grounds, you drive back to Yerevan, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
The tour runs in English or Russian with a live guide who also drives. Bottled water is provided. Lunch costs extra and can be vegetarian if you request it when booking. The whole day depends on weather. If conditions turn poor, you can reschedule or take a full refund. Children under 8 are not recommended. Those 8 and older must have an adult with them.
What’s included

Is this one for you?The jeep pickup from your Yerevan hotel means you do not need a car or a ride to the trailhead. The guide handles the drive and the route, so you can focus on the hike itself. This works well if you are staying in the city and want to reach high altitude without arranging transport or navigation.
