The experience
The tour starts in Ushuaia itself, where you'll drive through the city nestled between the Andes and the Beagle Channel, stopping at viewpoints to photograph the landscape and learn its history. Unlike the large buses that arrive throughout the day, you travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your own guide, so you control the pace and can linger at spots that interest you.
Once in Tierra del Fuego National Park, the route takes you to Bahía Ensenada and the Unidad Postal del Fin Mundo (the southernmost post office in the world), where you can have your passport stamped as a souvenir. From there you'll walk around Lago Roca on a peaceful trail with photo opportunities, then drive across Río Lapataia, past the Archipelago Cormoranes, Laguna Verde, and Río Ovando. The tour ends at Bahía Lapataia and the famous sign marking the southern terminus of Ruta Nacional 3, the end of the Panamericana, where you can photograph the distance marker to Alaska.
A snack stop at the Centro de Visitantes sits in the middle of the forest with panoramic views of the mountains, rivers and forest. The guide speaks English or Spanish and can also conduct the tour in Portuguese or Italian if needed. National Park entry fees are paid separately at the gate by credit card.
