Seven Lakes Route tour from San Martín de los Andes
Andean forest road trip with seven lakes: eight hours of winding passes and stunning views
The Seven Lakes Route is a full-day guided tour from San Martín de los Andes that follows National Route 237 north through Patagonian forests, passing seven alpine lakes before reaching the city center for free time, then returning by the same road to see it from a different angle. A Spanish-speaking guide leads the tour in an air-conditioned vehicle. Hotel pickup is included and children from age 4 are welcome. The eight-hour itinerary covers the lakes Correntoso, Espejo, Villarino, Falkner, Hermoso, and Meliquina, with a stop in Villa la Angostura for a walk through the shopping center and time for a snack on the return.

The experience
The route starts from your hotel and heads north on National Route 237, a winding mountain pass that climbs through dense Patagonian Andean forest. The road itself is the draw here. It is built into the landscape rather than cutting across it, so the lakes appear in sequence as you gain elevation and lose it again. You pass Correntoso, Espejo, Villarino, Falkner, Hermoso, and Meliquina, each one visible from a different angle and altitude as the road turns. Villa la Angostura sits roughly halfway. You stop there for a walk through the shopping center and later for a snack on the return journey.
San Martín de los Andes sits on the shore of Lake Lacar at the end of the route, and the city itself is the only place where you leave the vehicle for free time on foot. The architecture and mountain setting are the main reasons to stop. The town is built with design in mind, and the surrounding peaks frame every street. You have time to walk the city center at your own pace, then the guide turns the vehicle around and takes the same road back, which looks entirely different in the opposite direction and at a different time of day. The eight-hour total includes all driving, stops and free time.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you have a full day free and want to see the landscape from the road itself: the winding passes and the sequence of lakes are the experience, not a series of stops where you get out. The eight-hour commitment means you leave early and return in the evening, so plan accordingly if you have other activities that day.
