The drive from El Calafate to the glacier takes 80 km, and Lake Argentino stays in view the entire way. You have time to stand and watch, to circle back to a better vantage, to wait for the light to shift. If conditions align, you may witness the glacier rupture — a collapse of ice that happens without warning and without repetition.
