Step-by-step itinerary
Excursion to Purmamarca and Humahuaca
- Explore Purmamarca town on foot
- Visit Mirador de las Serranías del Hornocal
- Lunch and free time in Humahuaca
- Stop at Uquia church
- Drive through Tilcara main square
- Visit Hill of 7 Colors in Purmamarca
The experience
Thirteen to fifteen hours means you start early and return late, but the route packs four distinct stops into a single day. After 45 minutes to an hour exploring Purmamarca on foot (time to walk the main square and see the 7 Colors Hill up close), the tour heads to the Serranías del Hornocal viewpoint. Then comes Humahuaca itself, where you get an hour for lunch and another hour to walk around the town center. On the return, the vehicle stops at the Church of Uquia and loops through Tilcara's main square so you see the layout without leaving your seat.
The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a World Heritage Site, and the tour frames it that way: the guide explains how Inca culture shaped the region and how Spanish colonization layered on top of it, creating what the operator calls a unique cultural mix. The 7 Colors Hill is the visual anchor (a striped mountainside that shifts in the light), and you have the option to visit it during your free time in Purmamarca. The Serranías del Hornocal is a separate viewpoint stop earlier in the day. Both are included. Neither requires extra payment.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and the tour is wheelchair accessible. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on the group, and pickup from your hotel is part of the booking.
