The experience
The hike starts at El Chaltén and moves through four camps over four days, each one positioned to reach a different lake or glacier. Day one takes you to Piedra del Fraile Refuge via Río Eléctrico. Day two climbs to Laguna de los Tres (the park's main attraction, ringed by glaciers and granite with a direct view of Mount Fitz Roy's north face), then drops to Poincenot camp. Day three crosses the Madre e Hija trail between the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre valleys and reaches Laguna Torre, where small icebergs often drift on the water. The final day returns to El Chaltén. A professional guide leads the whole route and speaks English or Spanish.
You carry only a light backpack. The operator provides all camping gear, sleeping bags and tents at each camp. Meals are cooked on-site: breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, with vegetarian options available if you request them when booking. Camps have basic facilities (mobile latrines). Hotel pickup in El Chaltén is included, and the transfer to the trailhead is shared. The hike operates in all weather, so bring layers and rain gear suited to Patagonian wind and cold.
Piedras Blancas Glacier on day two stands out: it sits directly below Fitz Roy's north face and is unlike other glaciers in the region. Laguna de los Tres requires a steep final push but the view (surrounded by ice and stone with the peak rising behind it) justifies the climb. Laguna Torre, smaller and more intimate, sits in shadow under Cerro Torre's granite wall and often holds visible ice chunks.

What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What's the hike like on day two to Laguna de los Tres?
Day two climbs from Piedra del Fraile to Laguna de los Tres, passing Piedras Blancas Glacier first. The final stretch to the lake gets steep, but the view of Mount Fitz Roy's north face across the water and the glaciers surrounding the lake make it worth the effort. You sleep at Poincenot camp afterward.
Do I need to bring my own tent and sleeping bag?
No. The operator provides all camping gear, sleeping bags and tents at each camp site. You carry only a light backpack with personal items and layers for the weather.
What meals are included during the 4 days?
All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are cooked on-site at each camp. Vegetarian options are available if you request them when you book.
What's Laguna Torre like compared to Laguna de los Tres?
Laguna Torre is smaller and sits directly under Cerro Torre's granite wall. It often has small icebergs visible on the water and offers a view of the glacier above it. Laguna de los Tres is larger, surrounded by multiple glaciers and provides the main view of Mount Fitz Roy.
