The experience

The day starts with pickup at your Marrakech hotel at 09:00 and a five-hour drive into the Atlas Mountains. En route you'll pass mountain streams, colored rock cliffs, valleys and Berber villages. The route takes you through the souks at Tahanaout and Asni (markets that fill with activity on Tuesdays and Saturdays), where you can photograph the stalls and watch locals buying and selling produce, textiles and everyday goods.

Once you reach Imlil, the choice is yours: ride a horse through the surrounding countryside and remote villages, hike the same terrain on foot, or trek by mule. The guide leads whichever option you pick, and the pace stays manageable for all fitness levels. From Imlil's hillside position you overlook local villages and the landscape spreads out in all directions. If you choose the mule trek or hike, you'll visit the Kasbah of Toubkal, where you can rest and take a lunch break at your own expense.

Lunch is included as a traditional Moroccan tagine with chicken or a vegetarian option, served with salad and dessert. Bottled water, coffee and mint tea come throughout the day. The return journey to Marrakech happens in the afternoon, with drop-off at your hotel or riad.
