The Experience
The day starts at your hotel in Marrakech. Your driver takes you into the Atlas Mountains toward Asni, where a traditional Berber market runs on Saturdays. You arrive in Imlil for a welcome drink and meet your guide before walking through the local area to Imlil Valley's highest village. The route passes through Ait Mizan, Targa, and Imoula, stopping at Tamatert to see ancient terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables ringed by cherry and walnut trees. The landscape shifts as you move through Ait Souka.
Lunch happens in a Berber family home—a traditional Moroccan meal of tajine, salad, couscous royale, and fruit. After eating, you drive across the plateau toward the Agafay desert, a rocky sandstone and earthen landscape dotted with mud-built villages and dusty riverbeds. In spring, pasture and vegetation break up the terrain. You ride a camel across this plateau, then head back to Marrakech, arriving around 6pm.
The tour runs nine hours total and includes an air-conditioned vehicle, bottled water, the guide, lunch, and the camel ride. Your guide speaks English or French and travels with the group throughout. Children from age one are welcome, and the vehicle and all areas are wheelchair accessible, though the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health.
