The experience
The day starts with a ninety-minute drive from Vlore, stopping first at Llogara Panorama for views across the Ionian Sea and the south coast. From there you continue to the Monastery of St Theodore in Gjipe, where the car stops and the hike begins. The Path of Gods is a thirty-minute trek down to Gjipe Beach, a wild stretch of coast hemmed in by canyon walls. The difficulty of reaching it is what keeps it quiet. You'll spend an hour swimming, floating and exploring the sea caves carved into the rock face.
After the beach, the real climbing starts. You hike up into Gjipe Canyon for two hours, scrambling over rocks and climbing toward the gorge at the top. This is where the canyon narrows and the walls rise around you. The route covers 1–2 km depending on how far the group pushes. Wear sneakers for grip on the stone, bring a hat and sunscreen, and pack swimwear for the water. Bottled water and snacks are provided, and there are cafés and restaurants on the beach if you want lunch (not included in the price).
The return drive to Vlore takes another ninety minutes. An English or Italian-speaking guide leads the whole day, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles the transport so you're not navigating alone.
What’s included
- Bottled water and snacks throughout the day.
- coffee and tea.
- air-conditioned vehicle transport from Vlore to Gjipe and back.
- English or Italian-speaking guide for the full six hours.

Is this one for you?Small groups work well here since the canyon hike and rock scrambling need sure footing and the narrow gorge doesn't suit large numbers. Pick this if you want to climb and swim in one day rather than follow a fixed route with many stops.

What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How difficult is the hiking and climbing in Gjipe Canyon?
The Path of Gods down to the beach is a moderate thirty-minute hike requiring sneakers for footing. The canyon climb is more demanding: two hours of rock scrambling over 1–2 km with uneven terrain and some exposure, so a moderate level of physical fitness is needed. The operator does not recommend this activity for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy.
What exactly happens during the snorkeling part?
Snorkeling in Gjipe happens on the beach and in the sea caves. You swim and explore the caves carved into the rock, floating in clear water. The activity lasts about an hour on the beach before the group moves on to the canyon hike.

Lunch is not included in the price. Cafés and restaurants sit on Gjipe Beach where you can order food and drinks. You choose what to buy and when to eat during the beach hour.
What's included in the price besides the guide and transport?
Bottled water, snacks, coffee and tea are included. The vehicle is air-conditioned for the drive from Vlore. You bring your own swimwear, hat, sunscreen and sneakers.
