The experience
The tour begins with pickup from your Tirana accommodation and a drive to the Bovilla Dam, where your guide introduces the lake's history and ecological role before you start hiking. The path to the Bovilla Balcony is moderate, neither steep nor flat, and winds through mountain terrain where you'll notice the local flora and fauna as you climb. Once you reach the balcony, the view opens across the turquoise water to Gamti Mountain and the surrounding ridges. This is where most people stop to breathe and take in the scale of the landscape.
After the viewpoint, the route brings you to a scenic cave where you can rest in the shade and let the mountain air settle. The tour includes an optional stop for lunch at the lake's edge if you want it, though food is not part of the package price. A final visit to Bovilla Canyon adds a short stretch of dramatic rock and water before the drive back to Tirana. The whole day runs about six hours from pickup to drop-off.
Your guide speaks English and knows the area well enough to answer questions about what you're seeing. The hike is designed to be accessible (the operator notes it suits all fitness levels), but it is still a walk uphill with uneven ground, so wear shoes with grip and bring water. Children from age 5 can join. Younger children sit on an adult's lap during the drive.
What’s included
