The experience
The day starts with pickup at 10:30 from the Saranda-Ksamil bus station on the promenade in front of Kristiano Restaurant, then a short ride to Bote Farms in the Albanian countryside. Once there, you join an English-speaking guide for a cooking class where you learn to prepare traditional Albanian dishes. This is not a demonstration. You work in the kitchen, hands on, making the food that becomes lunch.
Between cooking and eating, the farm opens up. You can milk a goat, feed and pet the farm animals, walk through terraced gardens and a new wine vineyard, and take photographs. There's a one-of-a-kind natural swimming pool where you can swim or lounge with a towel provided. The six-course meal arrives when you're ready. Everything you cooked, plus dishes from the farm kitchen, paired with endless wine, special infused tea and gourmet lemonade.
The group stays small and mixed, so you'll meet other travelers while you work. If you eat vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free, the kitchen adjusts the menu without fuss. The whole experience (class, farm, pool, meal and drinks) fits into one afternoon before the return to town.
