The experience
What makes this different from a regular dinner is that you're not watching from a table. You're part of the show. The evening starts the moment you arrive: you're dressed in a chitenge, greeted with a hand-washing ceremony, and seated in an open-air venue with thatched roofs where the rhythm of African drumming already fills the air. The four-course buffet includes succulent game meats like warthog, kudu and impala, traditional sadza (maize-based dishes), rich stews, and vegetarian options. For the adventurous, sampling a mopane worm comes with a certificate.
Throughout the meal, live performers move through the space with energetic drumming and dancing in colorful attire, traditional storytelling, and interactive moments where you're invited to join in. Face painting and fortune telling add to the festive atmosphere. The highlight for many is the Ngoma dance, a remarkable traditional performance you can watch or step into yourself. Drumming lessons happen at your table, so you leave having actually played alongside the musicians, not just heard them.
The whole experience runs about two hours, and your hotel provides the transfer both ways. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and infants can sit on a lap or ride in a stroller if needed.

Is this one for you?The evening is social and participatory (you'll be invited to dance, drum and move around the venue), so it suits travelers who want to be part of the action rather than seated throughout. If you prefer to observe quietly, that's fine too, but the energy is built around joining in.
